Straight Outta Compton, the biopic about rap group N.W.A, remained a strong #1 at the box office for its second week, according to studio estimates from Rentrak. The film earned $26.8 million and crossed the $100 million mark Saturday for a total of $111.5 million.
“It is the movie of the moment, the movie everyone is talking about. Thank goodness for Straight Outta Compton, because we definitely need that boost,” said Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst from Rentrak says.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation starring Tom Cruise remained in second place, making $11.7 million, with a total domestic pull of almost $160 million.
Third was horror sequel Sinister 2 with $10.6 million, with a mere 12% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Hitman: Agent 47 came in fourth with 7% approval from Rotten Tomatoes and $8.2 million.
Rounding out the top 5 was The Man from U.N.C.L.E. with $7.4 million.
American Ultra, a stoner action comedy, tanked with $5.5 million despite its stars Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, as well as being an original concept.
