Users have been asking for it and Facebook has finally complied. Now we get to let people know how much we dislike their posts or pictures.
Could this lead to more use of the “unfriend” button?
Hopefully not.
Nevertheless, this looks to be a move that will make many happy.
“I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it,” Mark Zuckerberg said during an online town hall meeting.
Users can have the option of liking or disliking a friends’ posts based on common sense things like whether or not it’s something you should like or dislike. Is it a new baby? Like! Is it a terrible day at work? Of course, dislike. (depending on who it is. 😉 )
“What they really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment,” Zuckerberg said.
So perhaps my friend Jessica won’t mistake my like on her post about being traumatized by a spider. Jess, I was simply trying to show you some solidarity.
