Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, now 90 years old, revealed on Wednesday that he is battling with cancer.
“Recent liver surgery revealed that I have cancer that now is in other parts of my body,” said Carter in a statement.
Carter will undergo treatment at the Emory Healthcare Center in Georgia, and said he will release more details by next week.
The August 3 liver surgery mentioned above was to remove a “small mass” from Carter’s liver according to the Associated Press.
Following the procedure, his prognosis for a full recover was initially thought to be excellent.
Carter was president from 1977 to 19811.
